AWARDS AND RECOGNITION On November 7th, 2025 we honored the following professionals for their contributions to our association. Edward L. McQuaid Distinguished Service Award: Michael Downey, DPM This award is presented to a doctor who has served the profession with dedication and distinction to his profession and community.
Marc A. Karpo Award - Special Recognition, Podiatrist: Sabrina Minhas, DPM This award is presented to a member who has contributed to the advancement of the podiatric profession by specific deeds or faithful attendance and participation, and overall contributions to the profession at the division, state, or national level.
Leonard Portnoy, DPM Award: Pete Smith, DPM This award is presented to a member who has contributed to the advancement of the podiatric profession by specific deeds or faithful attendance and participation, and overall contributions to the profession at the division, state, or national level.
Pioneer of Podiatry Award: John Marty, DPM This award is presented to a Life Member who has contributed “above and beyond” to the advancement of the profession throughout his or her career.
Special Recognition Award to A Layperson: Bob Dillon, Esq. This award is presented to a layperson who has made a significant contribution to the podiatric profession.
Special Recognition Award to A Healthcare Practitioner: Dr. Sarang Mangalmurti Awarded to a selected recipient who is a health care practitioner, other than a podiatrist, who has significantly contributed to the podiatric profession
Award Of Excellence: Matthew Sowa, DPM This award may be awarded to a member in good standing in recognition of outstanding state accomplishments in scientific, professional, or civic endeavors. Nominees must have demonstrated outstanding service to PPMA.
PPMA’s Rising Star: Gretchen Perschke, DPM This award is given to a member in good standing in practice for no more than 10 years in recognition of outstanding state accomplishments in scientific, professional or civic endeavors. Nominees must have demonstrated outstanding service to PPMA.
PPMA’s Podiatrist of The Year: Jan Golden, DPM This award symbolizes the best of the best. This is our highest honor and is voted on by one’s peers the previous year at the house of delegates and is given to a doctor who best exemplifies the highest of professional and personal values.
