For Dr. Nargiza Mahmudova, the path to podiatry began with a personal experience that continues to inspire her today.

When Dr. Mahmudova's father suffered a foot injury, she witnessed firsthand the difference compassionate, skilled podiatric care could make. Watching him regain his mobility sparked her interest in a profession dedicated to helping people relieve pain, restore function, and improve their quality of life.

"That experience continues to motivate me every day," she shares.

Today, Dr. Mahmudova is the proud owner of Step Forward Podiatry, a practice she built from the ground up. Opening her own practice is the professional accomplishment she is most proud of, describing the experience as both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

Her vision has always been to create a welcoming, patient-centered environment where every individual receives compassionate, evidence-based care. Seeing her practice grow and earning the trust of her community have been among the most fulfilling experiences of her career.

Dr. Mahmudova also values the community she has found through the Pennsylvania Podiatric Medical Association (PPMA). For her, PPMA provides more than professional connections—it offers opportunities to collaborate with colleagues, learn from experienced mentors, stay up to date on advances in podiatric medicine, and advocate for the profession.

For podiatrists beginning their careers, Dr. Mahmudova encourages a mindset of lifelong learning.

"Never stop learning and never hesitate to ask questions," she advises. She recommends seeking mentors who challenge and support you, continuing to develop clinical and surgical skills, and embracing every opportunity to learn.

Above all, she emphasizes the importance of treating every patient with empathy, honesty, and respect.

"Your reputation is built one patient at a time, and genuine compassion will always leave a lasting impression."

Dr. Mahmudova earned her podiatric medical degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and completed her residency at St. Luke's University Health Network – Allentown Campus in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

When it comes to balancing a demanding career with life outside of medicine, Dr. Mahmudova believes that balance is an ongoing journey. Setting boundaries, delegating responsibilities, and making time for family and personal well-being are all essential. She believes that taking care of yourself allows you to better care for your patients.

Her advice is simple: Building a fulfilling career is a marathon, not a sprint. Celebrate your progress, continue learning, and make time for the people and experiences that matter most.
