APMA House Adopts PPMA Delegation Proposition on Growing Profession

The Pennsylvania Delegation to the American Podiatric Medical Association successfully participated on the platforms of the APMA's virtual House of Delegates.
The APMA House overwhelmingly adopted our Proposition on the Growth of the Profession.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
A multi-faceted approach must be undertaken in order to ensure that the profession of podiatric medicine and surgery continues to grow in perpetuity.

PROPOSED PHILOSOPHY, POLICY, OR POSITION
It is the policy of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) to support the continued growth of the profession through the following activities:
• Support and direct recruitment of qualified candidates to apply to the colleges of podiatric medicine;
• Work with the balance committee on residency programs to promote an adequate number of residency training programs for graduating podiatrists;
• Support the education of podiatrists at the podiatric medical schools and in residency training to promote the highest level of training and expertise in lower extremity medicine and surgery and recognition as physicians;
• Coordinate these efforts in an efficient and effective manner that provides the foundation for continued growth of the profession of podiatric medicine and surgery including working with the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) to maximize class size and address the issue of establishment of new colleges of podiatric medicine; and
• Comprehensively report on the progress of this policy on an annual basis including growth comparisons to prior years.

The Association thanks Doctors’ Gronborg, Hartzell, Zeno, Hart, Schlorff, Pinker, Pasquino, Gershey, Mattiacci, Virtue, LaFata, Pete Smith, and Joe Smith all of whom gave their time over the past three months, negotiating the Proposition. Further, they dedicated their entire weekend attending the virtual APMA House and successfully propelling the passage of this important Proposition.
Pennsylvania, annually, has brought important issues relative to the growth and development of the profession to the APMA House. Our record of important resolutions and propositions is one of which each of our members can be justly proud.
