I write to you as Pennsylvania cafes and retailers are featuring pumpkin spice and everything nice. It's become a recurring theme for Pennsylvania residents, who appreciate a soft transition from the humidity to the shorter, colder days ahead. This Fall, our association has introduced a soft rebrand as part of a subtle transition to modernize our appearance, which includes website updates that enable us to communicate easily with our members on mobile devices. At the same time, we remain the trusted resource for podiatrists in Pennsylvania that can be relied upon. Our 750+ members continue to find value in our existing offerings, which range from advocacy to steep discounts that each unique member can appreciate. These offerings include professional liability coverages, quality educational opportunities through The Goldfarb Foundation and The Guild. PPMA continues to strive to drive value by providing reliable resources that our members can depend on, while always looking ahead to see how we may enhance the careers and lives of our members. This includes providing members with opportunities to access valuable data that can educate them on current podiatric salaries, which are perceived to have a wide gap, allowing them to attract professionals and effectively negotiate wages. We are always open to feedback to make sure that we are meeting your needs and exploring opportunities. Our board has been discussing several topics that are impacting our profession, including: - A review of a draft of the PA Podiatry Board Regulations as they relate to professional conduct, to which we are submitting comments to ensure that we are treated fairly
- House Bill 1391 about orthotic coverages to ensure that considerations are made for our patients to receive optimal healthcare
- The PA licensure Interstate Podiatric Medical Licensure Compact to simplify licensure in two or more states, to address healthcare shortages
- The impact of student loans for podiatric students as a part of the Big Beautiful Bill may detract students from furthering their education, which could be detrimental to our student recruitment efforts
As we prepare to close out the year, many of us have checklists for both personal and professional tasks. Know that PPMA is here for you as a trusted resource for our profession, committed to supporting you in achieving your goals. As this is my last opportunity to address our membership at large, I would like to thank you for your membership and all that you do for the podiatric community and the patients you serve. We anticipate the transition in leadership to be as warm and sweet as pumpkin spice, and everything nice. I am sure you will enjoy getting to know Alicia Canzanese, DPM, as she assumes the presidency in November. She has demonstrated quality leadership in her roles with The Goldfarb Foundation, PPMA, and several other podiatric professional affiliates. It has been an honor to be your president.
