APMA is encouraging its members to get involved in the American College of Surgeons’s (ACS) “Stop the Bleed” campaign. This important initiative is designed to educate the public about the use and application of tourniquets as a lifesaving measure in a bleeding emergency.
This was demonstrated by APMA member and U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup, DPM (R-OH), when he rushed to the aid of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) in the aftermath of a shooting at a congressional baseball team practice two years ago, a tourniquet can mean the difference between life and death.
Visit APMA's Stop the Bleed digital toolkit and sign up today to lead a Stop the Bleed course. Share information about the Stop the Bleed campaign via your website and social media, and encourage patients to sign up to attend a local course.
APMA had alerted ACS that podiatrists, who are experts in the use of tourniquets in the lower extremity, were not listed as an approved discipline to provide instruction as part of the campaign. ACS immediately amended its materials and added podiatrists to the instructor list.
Thank you for your commitment to public safety and for joining APMA, ACS, and a host of other partners in our effort to Stop the Bleed.
