At 1:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008, the Governor indicated
that a budget was near, but that MCARE Abatement was not included.
The Senate is moving to keep MCARE Abatement on the agenda and not
postpone action until the fall. The House will need to agree to an
extension in a Bill being sent to the House by the Senate. All
PPMA members should contact their State House Representatives and
tell them by telephone, fax, or letter of the urgent need to
continue the MCARE Abatement.
Here is a sample letter that you can use when contacting your
representatives:
"Please be advised that I am a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine
living in your district. Our profession is required to purchase
professional liability coverage through the MCARE system. The
Abatement to the MCARE Assessment has allowed me to stay in
Pennsylvania, and I urge you to continue that Abatement in 2008 and
work towards the retirement of MCARE. — (Insert your name here)."
To find out who your state Representative is and the contact
information, go to
www.ppma.org, sign in and then highlight 1. "PA eAdvocacy
Connection" then the 2) "PA General Assembly."
Take Action as soon as you read this! —PPMA on the Hill
